Foreign investors can obtain residency in Slovenia when starting a business or when investing in a Slovenian project. Foreigners can also apply for permanent residency or  citizenship in Slovenia. Investing could be in local companies or in real estate.

Permanent residency can be acquired after 5 years of living in Slovenia.

A capital eligibility for investment to obtain residency is minimum EUR 50.000. 
The application can be processed and residency visa issued in 1-4 months. 
Investors who want to set up a business in Slovenia are required to hire 1 employee EU/Slovenian national. Reasons to choose Slovenia could be low taxation, high quality of life, stable economy, quality infrastructure, skilled workforce, close to other EU states like Austria or Germany and move freely in all EU member states and the Schengen area without further visa approvals. 
Slovenia is a member state of the European Union and persons who are citizens of the EU arriving in Slovenia are based on the free movement of persons and regulations applicable in the EU, and citizens of third party countries making different procedures for immigration to Slovenia. But, all citizens will must comply with:
- obtaining the residency by investment are regulated by The Employment, Self-Employment and Work Aliens Act 2015,
- all applicants must have an age at least 18 years old at the moment when application is made,
- applicant must be able to invest EUR 50,000 in the local economy, must also be able to obtain an income of minimum EUR 10,000 per month in     the first 6 months of activity,
- a person who arrives for investment, has the right to become resident or permanent resident and to apply for Slovenian citizenship after 10     years living in Slovenia, requirements for citizenship imposed to all applicants (residency, knowledge of the Slovenian society, language etc.), 
- Dual citizenship is permitted,
- beside investment, foreigners can get the rights to residency if they want to work in Slovenia or if they want to study.
-personal income tax rate applied based on the income amount at rates from 16% to 50%
 
Steps for Slovenian residency by investments 

1. Contact The Competent Institution( Embassy/Consulate) operating in the country where the investor is a resident.

2. Invest in Accepted Projects (Businesses/Real Estate) corporate assets, real estate or technology.

3. The Financial Threshold is minimum EUR 50.000  in the Slovenian economy.(Other costs can apply for visa processing, renting/purchasing a property, etc.).

4.Family Relocation for spouse/children visa can be included in application who will be issued initially with temporary residency with no additional financial requirements.

5. The investor must have a valid passport that will expire after the visa validity (a minimum period of 3 months is necessary). A standard photo and fingerprints, which will be taken by an official consular of Slovenia in the country where the foreigner resides.

6. A police clearance issued in the country of the foreigner is also required.

7. Apply for Permanent Residency after 5 years of stay. Living requirement 180 days per year, but could be applied with less. Citizenship can be acquired  after 10 years. 

The country does not currently have a golden visa program.
